How to prepare your home and pet for your departure

o Ensure you have enough food, treats, litter, straw etc for the time you will be away or put in your order in with Purr-fect Kitty.
o Check your Service Plan Agreement and make sure you have filled in all details and that none of them have changed. Inform Purr-fect Kitty of any changes.
o If your pet is on medication leave written instructions on I'ts use even if this has already been discussed verbally.
o Leave your pet's toys out.
o Let your vet know in advance that you are going on holiday and that a pet sitter will be caring for your pets, especially if your pet has a health condition that needs to be watched.
o Inform Purr-fect Kitty of anything in your home that may cause a problem ie sinks that don't drain, toilet that easily blocks etc.
o Leave written instructions about how to operate the heating system and leave the thermostat set at a comfortable temperature for your pets while you're gone.
o If anyone will be in your home during your absence, let Purr-fect Kitty know ie cleaners, gardeners etc
o Remove potentially dangerous plants or decorations and put them somewhere safe where your pet will not be able to get to them. This is particularly important at Christmas.

 

FOR HOME SECURITY

Burglars Are largely opportunists and are attracted to any home
which appears empty

o If there will be a car parked on your drive, inform your pet sitter and give registration details.
o If you rent your property, give your landlord Purr-fect Kitty's contact details in case of emergency and visa versa.
o Ask your neighbour to park their car on your driveway if you are taking your own car with you.
o Leave lights on a timer and possibly a radio turned on at low volume.
o Remove high value or attractive items from view
o Avoid leaving presents and gifts on display
o Do not discard of packaging and boxes on your drive for collection. This draws attention to the fact you have recently purchased an expensive item.
o Store ladders in garages or chain them up if left outside

• Avoid booking sitter services where they advertise on their vehicles, this could draw attention to your property
• Ensure all outbuildings are secured with machinery and tools stored out of sight
